Central Oregon: Smith Rocks SP and Cove Palisades
An overnight car camp at the Crooked River Campground in Cove Palisades State Park. Hikes were Smith Rocks and Tam a Lau trail
A classic view of Smith Rocks with the Crooked River

Note the trail in the lower right: Misery Ridge trail switchbacks and heads up and right.

Looking down on the upper part of the Misery Ridge trail.

A more sedate trail follows the river at the base of the rocks.

Lake Billy Chinook (reservoir) in Cove Palisades State Park, from early on the Tam a Lau trail.

On top of The Peninsula, I took the trail CCW, and it starts crossing through dry forest.

Then the trail follows the edge and looks down at the Crooked River arm of the reservoir. My campground was in the flats in the upper right, and you drive across that bridge to get to the core services in the park.

The Tam a Lau trail reaches the northern tip of the Peninsula, looking across at The Island, and the two major arms of the reservoir.

Zooming in on Mt Jefferson.

Looking down at the Deschutes Arm, the Tam a Lau trail starts down there.
