Whatcom Pass and Tapto Lakes

North Cascades National Park

After leaving Bear Creek Camp and retracing my route west along the Chilliwack river, I continued past the previous day's junction to the Brush Creek trail, which heads 2500 feet up to Whatcom Pass. There was a buggy camp just below the pass where I spent the next night. I strolled fifteen minutes up to Whatcom Pass and went up the south side a ways for some great views.

The following day I had a short hike to the pass, and one hour further on an unmaintained, and occasionally steep trail north from the pass up and over a ridge to the Tapto Lakes. Although the trail is well worn, it is considered a cross-country route by the park and the camps at Tapto Lakes are not established or reserved. I spent the rest of the day walking around as clouds came and went. That night rain moved in and it was all fogged in the next morning.

The strangely named Easy Ridge is on the west side of Brush Creek, hiking up to Whatcom Pass.
