Southwest Wallowa Mountains, part 1

On this trip, originally planned for 2007, but canceled due to fires on the approach roads, I was joined by my Colorado ski partners, Paul and Sue. We met at Medical Springs, OR, and camped at the trailhead. Then we went in on Eagle Creek. They had one less day then I, so I finished the trip on my own.

An unnamed peak shows itself above Eagle Creek just past the trailhead.

Eagle Creek.

Eagle Meadows, 4 miles from the trailhead.

We crossed Eagle Creek to find a more private camping area; Needle Point above.

Paul and Sue relax on our camping perch a couple hundred feet above the valley.

Unnamed peaks across the canyon.

Our water source was the outlet from Bear Lake, a few hundred yards east of the camp perch.

Another view of our camping perch.

Looking up the valley of Eagle Creek, Needle Point again dominates.

We dayhiked straight up the hillside to Bear Lake, bypassing the longer trail.

We took the longer trail back, and passed by Culver Lake.

Needle Point.

Cached Lake, on the way to the pass above Eagle Creek.

Looking back down Eagle Creek and towards Needle Point as we near the pass.

The unnamed pass out of the Eagle Creek drainage.

Heading down from the pass.

My camp at Arrow Lake, the second night on the trail. Paul and Sue were on the other side of the lake.

Arrow Lake, again.

Looking down at Heart Lake.

The trail near Arrow Lake.
