As a part of my plan to visit some of the Great Lodges of national parks and forests around the country, I started by visiting the Lake Quinault Lodge on Lake Quinault, on the south edge of Olympic National Park. Lin and I went for two nights Oct 3-5, 2013.
Looking up at the lodge
They get an average of 12 feet of rain a year in this temperate rainforest and track it on this rain gauge on the back patio
There is a mile-long lakeshore trail that passes right below
The next morning we visited the Olympic coast a half hour away at Kalaloch. The facilities were closed due to the government shutdown
But we lived dangerously and went down to the water anyway
The lighthouse on Destruction Island
That afternoon we did a couple of loop hikes in the area
