The first part of the route went over Hannegan Pass. After spending much of the day driving to the area and getting my permit, I didn't start walking until about 3pm. The rest of the first day was to hike up to Hannegan Camp, just below the pass. This is still in the national forest and wilderness.
It was a half hour up to the pass in the morning. Once there, I dropped my pack and hiked up 1100 feet to Hannegan Peak. The weather was clear and the views were spectacular. From there, it was down a bit to a trail junction, the entrance to the national park, and up on to Copper ridge.
